Everyone is fascinated by life under the sea. Be it sharks or jellyfish or even a little swimmer like Nemo. But for me one of the most interesting life forms is the giant squid. With the ability to grow to near mythic proportions and the fact that so few have ever been seen, it does seem as if the giant squid is a fantasy and not a real creature. Truly a beast of the deep, living at depths of up to 1,500 feet this is one elusive cephalopod.
When given a chance to see how long those tentacles can actually grow, it does boggle the mind. To get an idea of how big they really are, a creative knitter has crafted a life-sized reproduction of a giant squid. Named Plarchie, the creation that is 8 meters long was knitted entirely from orange plastic bags.
This knitter isn’t covering trees with his/her art, but they have put their needles to a good use. I’m not sure how many bags that took, but it had to keep a large number of them out of the landfills.
