Call off the snake charmers and send the mongooses (mongeese?) back to their cages, the emergency is over. The Bronx Zoo’s missing 20-inch cobra has been recovered. The cobra, which went missing earlier this week, was discovered and it wasn’t far from home. The missing Bronx Zoo cobra was recovered inside a non-public area of the reptile house, not far from the quarantine room where it had initially escaped. Fortunately, no one was hurt, least of all the cobra.
“She looks in really good condition,” said Jim Breheny, the director of the Bronx Zoo. “Our responsibility is to her to make sure that she’s in good shape and that her welfare is being taken care of.”
Way to avert disaster, Bronx Zoo! The zoo’s reptile house, which has been closed since the snake made her daring escape, will be reopening to the public by next weekend. As for the cobra, I imagine she’ll get some special snake Alcatraz to live inside in an attempt to prevent these kind of escapes again.
Fool me once, cobra…
