If you’re looking to knock over a bank, according to recent statistics, you’re probably planning to make your move on a Friday. For whatever reason, Friday was the most popular day for bank robberies last year, with most of the robberies taking place mid-morning. The majority of those robberies involved someone going to the bank teller counter with a note demanding money and mentioning a weapon.
While the South and West generally had the most bank robberies, do you know where the bank robbery hotbed was? Why, if you said California, then pat yourself on the back. California had the most bank robberies last year, with a staggering 806. No word on how many of them were bank robberies by old people. The next closest state, Texas, had only 464. There were 5546 robberies reported in 2010, down from 6065 in 2009.
Bank robbers last year made off with $43 million dollars, $8 million of which was recovered. Where’s the rest of the cash? Well, I imagine some was destroyed by dye packs as seen above, and the rest? Probably spent on stuff before the cops got to it.
