Good news, fellow fans of Neil Gaiman. The British fantasy author’s much-beloved classic work, American Gods, looks as through it is going to become a television series. Playtone, AKA Tom Hanks’ development company, has optioned American Gods and is looking to make it a series on HBO. Not a mini-series, a full-fledged, long-running, multi-episode TV series! American Gods is coming to HBO in series form, and I could not be happier about it.
Of all of Gaiman’s work, American Gods might be the one most fit for television, though all of Gaiman’s work is incredible. From his incredible Tweets to his famous New Year’s Eve benediction from a few years back, he’s prolific and he really knows a way with words. When you team him up with Playtone, who did Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and Big Love, that’s a recipe for greatness on television.
Even without any casting news or development information, this is already the most exciting TV news of the whole month, let alone the day. The last time I got this excited about something that hasn’t happened was when Walking Dead got turned into a hit AMC series, and that turned out great. This should be no different.
