If you need a hammer or nails, or want to pick up some paint, I suggest you head on down to Lowe’s. The home improvement superstore is a great place to pick up lots of necessary home repair goodies, and going to Lowe’s just might save your life. Don’t believe me? Ask dozens of Lowe’s customers from Sanford, North Carolina. On Saturday, severe weather swept through the south, injuring hundreds and killing dozens of people in North Carolina alone. It’s some of the most severe spring storms in memory, but at Lowe’s, people made it through the storm despite the store’s roof being torn off. Lowe’s employees brought customers into the store’s emergency shelter and are credited with saving more than 100 lives.
“It can’t help but have saved lives,” said Lowe’s store manager Michael Hollowell of the heroic action. “It was so tight that you couldn’t move with everybody in the hallway. We got as close as we could.”
More than 100 people were crammed into the store’s safe zone, 50 employees and at least 60 customers. Despite the crowded conditions, disaster was averted thanks to the quick-thinking actions of employees. There was less than a minute for staff to get folks into the safe zone, but they pulled it off, and nobody was seriously injured. Amazing, isn’t it?
