Hope you didn’t burn yourself out yesterday on 4/20, because today is an even more important holiday. That’s right, Brosephs and Brosephines, it’s National High Five Day! In case you didn’t know, the third Thursday in April has been designated, either informally or formally, as National High Five Day (or NH5D) since April 18, 2002, when three friends at the University of Virginia decided to invent the most brotastic holiday since Frisbee Golf and Polo Shirt Day. Since then, National High Five Day has taken off, and even spawned the National High Five Project (or NH5P), which is dedicated to spreading the word about High Five Day and even administering a scholarship! Neatorama has the history of the high five for your perusal and education.
How do you celebrate National High 5 Day? Well, you go out and you give high fives to strangers. It’s that simple, and that much fun.
So, head on out there and start slapping fives with random strangers. Really, it’s a great way to spread cheer, lift up spirits, and give something back to the community without having to really give up anything in return. You just stick your hand out there and make a friend. Go on out there and spread the word; just make sure you keep hand sanitizer in your pocket. You never know where that high-fiving hand has been.
