Stephen Colbert has undergone a meteoric rise in the world of television, going from little-known comedian to host of his own nightly television news program, The Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Since then, Colbert’s fake conservative commentator shtick has struck a cord with his audience, so much so that Colbert has stopped being a TV host and started being an actual figure. Buoyed by the success of The Daily Show/Colbert Report Washington rallies, Colbert has started his own Super PAC, a political action committee that allows someone to raise unlimited funds.
“There are some who say what will you do with that money,” Colbert joked to a crowd of fans. “I say give it to me and we’ll find out!” Earlier, Colbert said on his show that “this election, you, the Colbert nation could have a voice, in the form of my voice, shouted through a megaphone of cash.”
The PAC, dubbed the Colbert Super PAC, is the 114th Super PAC founded since the signing of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision in 2010. The PAC’s purpose? Well, most PACs are designed to raise money and funnel it to various candidates and take out TV ads and whatnot, so probably that, but your guess is as good as mine when it comes to just how Colbert will use his new-found clout (probably some anti-bear legislation). I guess we’ll all find out.
