Jani Lane, dead at 47.
Born John Kennedy Oswald and named for the president who died the year before he was born, you won’t know him by that name. You’ll know him by the name he rose to stardom under: Jani Lane. The lead singer of the 80’s and early 90’s hair metal band Warrant, Jani Lane was best known as the singer for the bizarrely sexist hit single “Cherry Pie” and the epic power ballad “Heaven.” Well, don’t hold your breath for another post-grunge Warrant comeback. Jani Lane was found dead at a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills, California, at age 47. A cause of death is currently unknown.
For most people these days, Jani Lane wasn’t known for his voice (which was great, despite his genre of choice). Jani Lane was known for his stint on Celebrity Fit Club, in which he completely remade his bloated body into a lean, mean rock-and-roll machine. At least, that’s one of the reasons why I remember him. He had the most compelling story of his season given his background and experiences, and I’d always hoped it would turn around for him. He rejoined Warrant a few years later, but left the band again over business disagreements.

I guess it never did turn around for him.
