When it comes to fans, there are no fans quite as devoted as Elvis fans. Say what you want to about Beatles fans, Nirvana fans, or whoever else, as Elvis Presley enters year 35 after his untimely death on August 16, 1977, he’s still got legions of fans who make the yearly trek to Graceland to mourn their fallen legend. This is the 34th anniversary of the Death of Elvis Presley, and thousands of fans have flocked to Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis, Tennessee to mourn and make a pilgrimage to Graceland to honor Elvis’s grave.
“It’s exciting that, 34 years after his death, Elvis is still being celebrated around the world,” said Kevin Kern, media director of Elvis Presley Enterprises. “It’s not just about the number of people here on Elvis Presley Boulevard each year, but about the millions of people around the world keeping his memory alive.”
Indeed, there are millions keeping Elvis’s memory alive, including Elvis impersonators who moonlight as life-saving doctors, the keepers of Graceland Too and the Dutch Graceland, and the nut who bought Elvis’s hair at auction. There are also the thousands of fans who continue to listen to and love E’s music. They’re the ones who make Elvis into a billion-dollar business a lifetime after his death.
