If you’re wanting to get your hands on HP’s recently discontinued TouchPad, then you’re in luck. HP is issuing a liquidation order for its TouchPad tablet computer, slashing prices to bare bones levels. We’re talking a 16GB TouchPad price of $100 and a 32GB TouchPad price of $150 at stores like Best Buy, Staples, and everywhere Hewlitt-Packard gadgets are sold. The only drawback to the sale? It’s only in Canada (for now).
However, if you think the sale order will stay in Canada only, think again. Best Buy alone has almost 200,000 of these turkeys waiting to be sold, and if you think HP is going to eat all that stock, think again. It’s better to sell it than not to sell it even if you’re not making much money. I’d imagine this will be a team effort. Best Buy et al slash prices to the bone to move units, and HP buys up unsold units and ships them to the nearest landfill for crushing and recycling.
If you’re interested, I suggest getting to Best Buy as soon as possible to check this out. No matter how you look at things, this is a deal that won’t last too long. Like webOS itself, this is a deal that may be doomed to extinction. Yes, $100 seems like a lot to spend on a defunct touchpad, but hackers have already enabled Android Honeycomb on the tablet, so it may have a longer life than you’d expect.
