Coming out of high school, Ohio State University quarterback Terrelle Pryor was the hottest recruit in the country, thanks to his huge frame and his blazing speed. Those two factors caught the eye of Oakland Raiders boss Al Davis, and now Pryor is taking his talents to the Bay Area. The Oakland Raiders picked Terrelle Pryor in the third round of the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft. Pryor was facing a five-game suspension by the NCAA had he returned to Ohio State; now, Pryor will serve a five-game suspension from the NFL due to Pryor’s late attempt to enter the Supplemental Draft.
“We’re tickled and thrilled that Terrelle went in the third round and to the Raiders,” said Drew Rosenhaus, Pryor’s agent. “The third round is quite an accomplishment for a young man who had his pro day 48 hours ago and didn’t know he would be in the draft until Thursday morning and wasn’t able to meet with any decision makers.”
Oakland is believed to have been swayed by Terrelle Pryor due to two factors. The 6’6 Pryor is willing to entertain a move to wide receiver (though he’d prefer quarterback and Raiders coach Hue Jackson believes his future is at quarterback) and Prior ran a 40-yard dash between 4.36 and 4.4 seconds, making him one of the fastest players in the draft in either 2011 or 2012 (Raiders boss Al Davis loves speed more than anything except for moving the team to Los Angeles). Pryor will be receiving something in the area of a four-year deal worth $2.36 million, with a $591,000 signing bonus due to the new rookie wage scale.
