"No, my picture's crooked!"

Yesterday, the Virginia area was rocked by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake the likes of which haven’t been felt on the Eastern seaboard in… well, ever.  That’s right, it’s one of the strongest earthquakes to his Virginia, it was felt all throughout the East Coast, and has become a huge joke to Californians.  Not to be left out, Buzzfeed has put together 20 stunning photos of the damage caused by yesterday’s East Coast Earthquake.  Be careful, you might split your sides looking at these images, which is a great relief considering some of the images we’ve seen of disasters from other countries.

I’m relieved that no one was hurt during the earthquake, and I’m pleased that nothing of value was damaged.  From what I’ve seen most of the responses from people in the area are more confusion than panic, which makes sense since Virginia hasn’t had an earthquake like that since the 1800’s.  Even a small earthquake can cause a lot of damage in a stable area not used to shaking.

Personally, I’m not laughing.  When the New Madrid fault opens up, there’s going to be serious damage in this area the likes of which I know we’re not prepared for, so I’m probably a little more sympathetic than the average quake-zone person.
