When it comes to the battle of cell phone carriers, there’s on thing that’s made all the difference: the Apple iPhone. AT&T’s subscriber base went through the roof while AT&T had the exclusive iPhone rights for three years (despite being terrible), and when Verizon finally got the iPhone, it was a huge deal. Enter Sprint, the other major carrier that didn’t have the iPhone. That’s about to change. Sprint will be adding the iPhone to its line of phones, according to rumors.
Perhaps more importantly, when Verizon and AT&T get the iPhone 5, Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5, too. Sprint, as the nation’s third-largest carrier, has been waiting for something like this to happen, and now Apple is being more forthcoming with the iPhone love. The rumor of the additional iPhone pushed Sprint’s stock prices 10 percent higher, and it’s not even been officially announced yet!
Speaking of not officially announced, the iPhone 5 hasn’t been announced yet, either. Conventional wisdom was that it would get a summer launch, but now it appears that Apple is preparing to wait for the iPhone 5 until September or October at the latest. Probably more problems with getting the iPhone to be the right shade of white.
