I hate the idea of surgery, only because I hate the idea of being put under and left to the mercy of a group of doctors and nurses that I don’t know. For a 49-year-old Chinese man, being put into the hospital was the biggest, and last, mistake of his life. When a fire broke out, the Hippocratic oath went out the window, as did the physicians in charge of the patient. A group of Chinese doctors left a patient to die on an operating table during a fire at a hospital. Talk about your Chinese fire drills.
“We saw smoke coming from the window of the operating room. Then doctors and nurses dashed out. When we asked about the patient, they said he was still inside,” said an eye-witness to the event.
Apparently, a machine used to sterilize equipment had a short and caught fire, so don’t blame the cat or the toaster just yet. The patient who suffocated to death on the smoke, a man known only as Zhu, had been in a traffic accident and was having his arm amputated when a fire broke out near the surgical suite. The doctors fled, leaving Zhu behind to suffocate to death on the smoke. The doctors apparently didn’t think about smoke inhalation regarding their patient, and instead thought to save their own hides.
