Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards was a night to celebrate lives, both new and departed. While the VMAs were ostensibly a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, with artists covering her songs and paying tribute to her, there was also a celebration of life (and the requisite Lady Gaga craziness). The biggest announcement of last night’s VMAs? Beyonce is pregnant and expecting her first child with rap mogul Jay-Z.
That’s right, the first family of urban music is about to grow by one. Meanwhile, on the Lady Gaga front, the weird songstress actually didn’t appear. Instead, she was replaced by a rapper named Jo Calderone–who just happens to be Lady Gaga in drag–at the gala at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Californa. Gaga also won two Moonmen awards, for female video of the year and video with a message.
British songbird Adele won three awards; Katy Perry also took home three statues, including the coveted Video Of The Year award for Firework. Also taking home awards were Justin Bieber, Foo Fighters, and Britney Spears, who won the MTV Vanguard Awards (and picked up a VMA for her song Till The World Ends in the process).
