Must've been that reefer madness kicking in.
Note to all would-be pot users out there: if you lose your bag, don’t go get it from the police station if you’re carrying around marijuana. Learn from Patricia Wright’s mistake. When Patricia Wright left her bag full of weed on the ferry in Picton, New Zealand, she did the only reasonable thing, she went to the police station to pick it back up. The 61-year-old was arrested upon arrival.
Apparently, recovering bags full of drugs from the cops is a bad idea. Ms. Wright’s lost bag included 20 grams (0.7 ounces) of marijuana divided into tinfoil-wrapped individual servings, a pot pipe, and her mobile phone. That’s how she got in touch with the cops, who found the bag on the South Island ferry and decided it would be best to take it in.
Wright was given six months of parole and was ordered to undergo counseling by Blenheim District Court Judge Peter Hobbs. Apparently, Ms. Wright has a long history of drug arrests, which probably explains why she thought it was a good idea to go to the cops to get back her bag full of drugs. No word on whether or not it was an Elmo backpack.
