Marilyn Manson, Narcissister, and Shia LaBeouf, just hangin' out.
Before Lady Gaga was wearing meat and murdering Santa, there was a shock rocker wearing an androgynous body suit, hissing into a microphone, and delighting teenagers while horrifying adults. Marilyn Manson is back, ladies and gentlemen, and he’s got a friend with him. That friend, weirdly enough, is the star of the Transformers films. The male star of the Transformers films. That’s right, Marilyn Manson’s new video, Born Villain, was directed by Shia LaBeouf.
“Marilyn Manson to me is an indelible figure,” LaBeouf told MTV News. “He’s a big deal to me, and in my childhood, I don’t know of a scarier figure in art. He, in my teenage years, was the scariest thing in the world, so part of me has always been intrigued.” LaBeouf based his video off of Shakespeare–a more graphic Shakespeare, but Shakespeare nonetheless. “The song has all these references to Macbeth and all this Shakespeare and heavy theology, so we tried to make Manson’s Un Chien Andalou macabre Macbeth – that’s sort of what that became.”
Due to the video’s content, I won’t embed it here. Here’s the link to “Born Villain” on YouTube, do with it what you will and know that it is NSFW. There’s graphic nudity, a guy on fire, face piercing, head-shaving, general weirdness, multiple Shakespearean monologues, eyeball-fu, and multiple performance artists. Charles Manson, your namesake has raised the bar for your next jailhouse album.
