Peyton Manning does not look ready for some football, Hank Williams Jr.
Peyton Manning has not missed a start in his NFL career. The number of times he’s sat on the bench while his team has played in the NFL can probably be counted on one hand. Peyton Manning is to the Indianapolis Colts what no other quarterback has ever been to his team. Manning functions as something other than a football delivery system–Peyton is a coach on the field, and without him, the Colts are doomed. So, Indianapolis fans are a bit worried about news reports that say that Peyton Manning may not just miss the opening game, he may miss the 2011-12 NFL entire season.
The news was broken by John Michael Vincent of WFNI-AM on his Twitter account, and soon seconded by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. Due to the fact that the recent surgery on Manning’s neck seems to be healing slower than expected, doctors may be tempted to perform a second surgery on Manning to see what the problem is with the first surgery and to see if there are any other problems. This might explain why Indy signed Kerry Collins out of retirement and gave him a 2-year, $14-million-dollar contract.
Could this neck injury fell the Hall of Fame career of a multi-Super Bowl quarterback and the king of all commercial endorsements? It’s got to be worrying, both for Manning and for the Colts.
