There are all kinds of ghost towns around the globe. There’s the abandoned city in Latvia that was up for auction. There are multiple small former communities in Antarctica. There’s even a ghost amusement park.
The latest “ghost town” is in the New Mexico desert and won’t have any residents. It will be a brand-spanking new ghost town. Albeit a ghost town without tumbleweeds and with solar panels.
A tech company is building a city in the middle of nowhere. Not just a couple of blocks of buildings. They’re constructing a 20-square mile metropolis that can be used to test new technologies including testing everything from renewable energy innovations to intelligent traffic systems, next-generation wireless networks and smart-grid cyber security systems.
Washington, D.C.-based technology company Pegasus Holding Company is spending $200 million to build the “city” which will be known as The Center. The Center will provide a testing ground for multiple projects both from the private sector and the not-for-profit area.
