Since 1987, The Simpsons has been on television in some form or another. For pretty much all of my life, in fact, there’s been The Simpsons in some form or fashion, from the crudely-animated shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show to today’s streamlined animation process. It’s far and away the longest-running animated series on television… for that matter, it’s the longest running show on television period. Now, the rumor is that Fox is considering turning The Simpsons into its own cable channel!
Would you watch a Simpsons channel? Considering The Simpsons affects every aspect of modern culture, from the dictionary to pop culture controversies involving Katy Perry, I don’t see how that network wouldn’t attract a huge audience right out of the gate. Right now, I use the TV as background noise quite a bit of the time anyway, so why wouldn’t I turn it to The Simpsons Station (I recommend calling it KBBL on Cable) for my need for reassuring noise while I work?
The only issue might be the syndication rights would have to expire before they could launch the full-time network, but Matt Groening says the show could last forever, so why not? I mean, just syndicate the most recent few seasons, put the rest onto the network, and boom, TV gold.
