Are those hummingbirds in your pants or are you just happy to see me?
A Dutch traveler had an obviously unusual bulge in his trousers, attracting the attention of French customs officials at Rochambeau airport in Cayenne, French Guiana. Once the authorities pulled the man aside and did a thorough check, they found an unusual nesting spot for a dozen hummingbirds. This wasn’t a case of a bird smuggling drugs into a prison. Instead it was a situation where a man was trying to get birds out of the country.
The man had created a traveling pouch for the tiny birds inside the front of his pants. The creatures were swaddled in cloth to keep them from flapping their wings. The smuggler was captured a year ago, but the story didn’t reach the public until recent days. They didn’t need a special camera for high-speed shots to take pics of these hummingbirds. TYWKIWDBI has more photos of the intercepted hummingbirds and the traveler’s strange methods.
Even though hummingbirds appear harmless, even small invasive species can create havoc. Just ask the authorities in South Florida trying to corral those African snails and piranhas.
