Right now, in Toronto, Paul W.S. Anderson is working on yet another movie in his series of Resident Evil films starring Milla Jovovich. Dubbed Resident Evil: Retribution, it’s the second of the RE movies to be shot in 3D (after Afterlife); it’s also the first Resident Evil move to nearly cause some real-life deaths. After a set collapsed and dropped a group of extras some 20 feet, 16 zombies were transported to area hospitals with injuries to their backs and legs. Fortunately, none of the injuries are life-threatening, and the zombie outbreak was contained.
The most interesting thing about this story isn’t that Paul W.S. Anderson is making another Resident Evil movie, but that when police and rescue crews arrived on the scene, they had trouble telling who was legitimately hurt during the accident and who was just wearing makeup and fake blood. At least, that’s what Toronto EMS spokesman Peter Macintyre said. Production company Cinespace Film Studios had no comment regarding the accident, but I imagine they’re pleased with the quality of makeup on the film.
Hopefully in a real zombie outbreak, the police would be better prepared.
