Women can be sensitive about their age, but nobody is as sensitive to the ticking clock as an actress. There’s such a perceived discrimination against actresses over age 40 that to be revealed as being middle aged can be a death blow for actresses who aren’t A-list talents. Hence, an actress is suing the IMDB and owner Amazon over the fact that Amazon updated her IMDB profile to have her real date of birth. She says when she gave Amazon her real name and information when signing up for an IMDB Pro account, they used that information to look up her real details and fill in her IMDB page.
According to the lawsuit, “If one is perceived to be ‘over-the-hill,’ i.e., approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as the plaintiff, to get work as she is thought to have less of an ‘upside.'” As for remaining anonymous, the woman asked to remain unnamed “based on fear of retaliation from defendants that would result in further damage and economic injury.”
The anonymous actress has fined a lawsuit against Amazon and IMDB, claiming breach of contract, fraud, and violation of privacy and consumer protection laws. The actress, an Asian-American actress based in Texas who uses an Americanized stage name, is seeking $1 million dollars in punitive damages and $75,000 or more in compensatory damages.
