On the surface, it was a routine trade. Trades happen all the time in the NFL, and all of the parties involved assumed the trade that moved Jerome Harrison from the Detroit Lions to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Ronnie Brown and a draft pick would pass with flying colors. There’s only one problem. Harrison, who seemed healthy, failed the physical. Lions running back Jerome Harrison has been diagnosed with a brain tumor after a routine physical.
The trade may have saved Jerome Harrison’s life. The nature of the brain tumor is not known, though Harrison is currently seeking treatment. As for the trade, Harrison is still a Lion (and still on the team’s 53-man roster) and Brown is still an Eagle. Harrison is not expected to play again this year, though officials say his prognosis for recovery is good. Currently, Harrison is listed as a did-not-practice player thanks to an illness and Lions coach Fightin’ Jim Schwartz refused to comment, citing privacy issues.
Yeah, I’d say a brain tumor is a pretty good reason not to practice. Here’s hoping it’s benign and that Harrison can recover his health and well-being sooner, rather than later.
