When it first debuted on AMC last year, The Walking Dead was an immediate, record-smashing success. AMC promptly renewed the series for a second season after only the second episode. Now, two episodes into season two, AMC is repeating the past by giving The Walking Dead a green light once more. AMC has renewed The Walking Dead for a third season. The key, as always, has been the show’s incredible ratings.
“Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “We are thankful for everyone’s contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make The Walking Dead a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world.”
When show runner Frank Darabont left, I was worried for TWD‘s future quality, but so far? This season has been as good, or better, than the first. New show head Glen Mazzara has completely reassured me, and we’re only two shows into the new season. The new characters have been introduced, and now it’s time for things to shake out as they should given the propensity for zombie mayhem on the series.
It looks as though The Dead will be Walking for seasons to come. I, for one, welcome our new zombie TV overlords.
