Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood from 1960's "All The Fine Young Cannibals."
On November 29, 1981, actress Natalie Wood went out yachting with husband Robert Wagner and friend Christopher Walken off the coast of Santa Catalina Island. It was Thanksgiving weekend and Wood had been drinking before deciding to go for a swim. She never returned from that swim. Now, 30 years after her death, the LAPD has officially reopened their investigation into Natalie Wood’s death based off of new comments made by the captain of the yacht.
“Although no one in the Wagner family has heard from the LA County Sheriff’s department about this matter, they fully support the efforts of the LA County Sheriff’s Deptartment and trust they will evaluate whether any new information relating to the death of Natalie Wood Wagner is valid, and that it comes from a credible source or sources other than those simply trying to profit from the 30 year anniversary of her tragic death,” said a statement issued by Robert Wagner.
A drowning death is a terrible tragedy, even for animals, but it’s still a tragedy. I’m not sure what the LA cops hope to gain by investigating a 30-year-old accidental death, but who knows what that boat captain might have said. I guess we’ll all find that out together once the LAPD closes the case again.
