SO MANY BARGAINS! AHAHAHAHAHA!
One of the trends of modern sales is to kick off earlier and stretch the sale out longer. Even Black Friday, the key shopping event of the Christmas season, is becoming its own event, with earlier starts and longer duration than ever before. These days, Black Friday is becoming Black Thanksgiving as stores kick off their Black Friday sales earlier and earlier. On the one hand, it’s good to no longer have to drag out of bed to get the best deals. On the other hand, a day off from everything would be awesome, and that includes shopping.
“It’s no longer Black Friday, it’s going to be Black Thanksgiving from here on out,” said Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at the NPD Group. “Retailers recognize the importance of being convenient, and one of those conveniences is opening earlier so people don’t have to wait in line at 4 in the morning in the cold.”
Indeed. These days, the Black Friday sales are kicking off on Thanksgiving. Stores opening up at 10PM on Thanksgiving for sales are Wal-Mart, Toys’R’Us, and KMart; opening up at midnight will be stores like Kohl’s, Macy’s, Target, and Best Buy. No more camping out to get in line for the best deals; now you can just roll over after your turkey dinner and sleep until the store opens. It’s a new wrinkle in Black Friday’s history.
