One of the biggest problems with doing a biography of any historical character is the fact that you have to separate fiction from fact, and in a lot of cases, the past can be a little bit blurry. Well, if anyone can separate fact from fiction, or at least make the fiction as interesting as possible, it’s director Steven Spielberg. Spielberg’s latest project is a documentary on Abraham Lincoln set during the Civil War, and it is slated to star Daniel Day-Lewis as the titular President, alongside a cast of brilliant actors like Jared Harris, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, and John Hawkes. If this picture of Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln is to be believed, Spielberg’s got the look of the characters down cold.
According to Richmond.com, on Wednesday, November 30, this picture of Daniel Day-Lewis sporting a Lincoln beard and speaking in the long-dead president’s accent was taken at Arcadia Restaurant in Shockoe Bottom, a suburb of Richmond, Virginia. The photo was snapped by sharp-eyed Michael Phillips and posted on Twitter. The filming is expected to begin in early 2012 in the Richmond area, hence the presence of Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln.
Say what you want about Daniel Day-Lewis and his method acting craziness, he’s as good a Lincoln as Francis Ford was, and Francis Ford played Lincoln in dozens of movies.
