It’s a holiday tradition stretching back for years. A man, known only as Secret Santa, travels from city to city and spreads a little holiday cheer. Secret Santa was recently spotted in Reading, Pennsylvania, giving out $100 bills at a diner, a bus station, laundromat, a Salvation Army depot, and a Goodwill store. That’s right, a man has been spotted giving away free money to those in need, bringing a little of the North Pole to Pennsylvania. Secret Santa’s only requirement? Make someone else happy with some of the money.
“Cities like Reading are experiencing tough economic times. It’s time for us to step up, not step back,” said the current Secret Santa, who took over for the late Larry Stewart, a cable company millionaire who was the first Secret Santa. “I promised him on his deathbed that I would continue the tradition of Secret Santa.”
The current Secret Santa is described only as a businessman who travels extensively. And travel he will over the next few weeks, hitting cities as far and wide as San Diego and Detroit before the holidays are over, spreading joy and cheer to downtrodden folks and giving out crisp $100 bills in his wake. It’s like a holiday version of the Year of Giving project, in which an unemployed man gave away $10 a day.
