Just a few weeks ago, Ryan Braun was on top of the world. The Milwaukee Brewers slugger was the reigning National League MVP for Major League Baseball, and a sporting superstar. Not so fast, my friends. As it turns out, Braun’s accomplishments may have been tainted by allegations of cheating. Reigning NL MVP Ryan Braun is facing a 50-game suspension after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
According to a spokesman for Braun, there are “highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan’s complete innocence.” Which is, of course, what they all say when they get caught taking HGH or anabolic steroids or whatever performance enhancer du jour they may have been shooting into their neck. Just ask Roger Clemens and Alberto Contador.
Honestly, the only upstanding thing would be to return the MVP award and admit that you cheated, assuming you didn’t take a tainted supplement and there wasn’t a lab error. Braun says he’s innocent and has appealed his suspension, but honestly; how often do you accidentally eat steroids while having one of the best season of your career, both in terms of health and performance?
