I’ll be the first to admit I’ve never really heard of Elf on the Shelf until recently. Apparently, it’s a stalker elf that watches children in a creepy, evil fashion to make sure they’re doing good and not misbehaving like a drunk Frosty at a Christmas parade. That’s all well and good, but I need more information on this thing before I weigh in. I know; I’ll turn to NMA News and listen to their take on the Elf on a Shelf phenomenon. NMA is where I get all my news these days.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F33yAP1eW8UWait, what? I just… this… I can’t even… oh, my brain hurts so much. For once, I don’t think any information was lost in translation between NMA and me. This time, I think all the weird brain-hurting confusion is a direct result of what the purpose of Elf on a Shelf is. So we’re intimidating children into being good by hiding creepy elves and other critters in their rooms? Really?
There have been a lot of terrible Christmas toy trends (Zhu Zhu Pets), but this isn’t even a toy, it’s just a decoration! Why do kids want this? Why do kids even care? Do kids care? I’m so confused right now.
