So you’re not into Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or even Festivus, but you’re still looking for holidays to celebrate in December. Well, you’re in luck, because December is chock full of holidays of various types and styles, so stop being a holiday-ruining Grinch and start being festive! Mental Floss has a great round-up of 11 offbeat December holidays that you can use as your alternative to Chrismahannukwanzaakkah.
Today would be a good day to start your new holiday traditions, because today is Monkey Day. According to the website, Monkey Day is described as an “annual celebration of all things simian, a festival of primates, a chance to scream like a monkey and throw feces at whomever you choose.” The holiday has been observed in some form or fashion since 2003, which makes it a pretty solid tradition even if no one is sure how it got started.
Sounds good to me; I think I’m down for that. Don’t worry, if you can’t celebrate today, there are plenty of other December holidays both before and after Christmas to celebrate. Apparently, this is a very festive month.
