Flash mobs, whether with a Glee theme or with an Angry Birds theme, were all the rage in 2010, but as 2011 winds down dancers are less willing to share the spotlight in group outings.
Unlike the 1,500 Phillipino prisoners who perform dance routines together, the solo performers want all the attention, to be the star of the show. Even whales are getting into the solo dancing spirit.
In the case of the public football dancer, it turns out an equipment manager named Chad, who works for the Miami University of Ohio RedHawks football team, likes to shake a leg during pregame warm-ups. The team’s video crew surreptitiously recorded his moves over the course of the season and put together an amalgamation of all the best. CBS Sports blog Eye on College Football found this Footloose of a gem that would make Fred Astaire green with envy or at least eager to join the RedHawks’ staff.
A hat tip to Nashville radio station 107.5 The River for finding the exuberant mall dancer Preston Leatherman who bounced and jived his way through the Cool Springs Galleria and The Mall at Green Hills in the Nashville area. Leatherman swivels through the malls with his iPod fueling his moves. He’s in a holiday mood, wearing his Christmas sweatshirt and listening to Maria Carey’s version of “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” His goofy energy makes you want to dance along with him, although I’m not sure any of his dance moves are research approved to attract the ladies.
