Well, the political circus to decide who will be the Republican candidate for President of the United States kicked off in earnest, and the official primary season has finally started. Last night, the Iowa caucus met and voted on who to send one step closer to a quest for Washington, and the results were pretty close for most of the night. The race between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum went down to the wire, with Mitt Romney winning the Iowa Caucus by 8 votes (both men had 25 percent of the vote). Internet favorite Ron Paul came in third, with 21 percent of the vote.
After bringing up the rear (just one spot ahead of Michele Bachmann, who confused John Wayne with John Wayne Gacy while campaigning in Iowa), former Texas governor Rick Perry is already showing signs of throwing his hat out of the ring and withdrawing from the race. He announced after Iowa that he was returning to Texas to reassess his future in the Presidential race, which in political terms means he’s drafting his concession speech as we speak and plotting a run for Senate or something in Texas.
Meanwhile, folks in Iowa are returning to their normal routine of driving drunk on lawnmowers.
