Kate Upton was born wearing less than a bikini, but there’s nothing she’s more comfortable in. Just ask her; despite being born in Michigan, she was raised in Melbourne, Florida, right near the beach. It’s natural that the 19-year-old model would make the cover of the vaunted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Kate Upton is your 2012 SI Swimsuit Edition covergirl, which is like winning the Super Bowl of modeling.
“In Florida, people walk around in their flip-flops, bikinis and jean shorts, so I’m very comfortable in a bathing suit,” said Upton. She added, “I have had a great year. For me, this is groundbreaking.”
With the rest of her SI cohorts, Upton appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman last night, which is where her cover made its debut in massive fashion. I’m sure she worked very hard to get to where she is, so good for her. I’m still not sure how a sports magazine came up with the idea to issue a cheesecake issue when they’re not outing Brett Favre for sexual harassment or scandalous affairs that tear apart NBA champion-caliber teams, but I’m sure models are very glad for the extra work and fame.
