It’s easy to forget that some people are professional football players. Certainly, part-time actor and reality television show star Hines Ward doesn’t look the part of the football player. He’s in great shape, but he’s not overly large or frightening-looking. He looks like, and apparently is, a nice guy. Unfortunately, he’s also 36 years old, which is over the hill for a wide receiver, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to save some money. Hines Ward has been cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers after 14 seasons.
“We had a conversation today with Hines Ward and informed him that we plan to release him of his contract prior to the start of the 2012 NFL calendar year,” said Steelers head honcho Art Rooney II. “Hines has been an integral part of our success since we drafted him in 1998, and we will forever be grateful for what he has helped us achieve.”
Ward was drafted by the Steelers out of Georgia in the third round of the 1998 draft. He quickly won over the hearts of the Steelers faithful thanks to his strong blocking skills, his work ethic, and his hated status among the other players in the league, who believe that Ward is a very dirty player in spite of his squeaky clean personal life and big, bright smile. Ward was a four-time Pro Bowl player and was the MVP of the 2006 Super Bowl.
