Andrew Breitbart wasn’t just a writer or journalist, he was also a newsmaker. Rather than simply passively participating in the process of being a member of the media, he sought to attack it for its perceived biases. Breitbart’s family of websites, including Big Government and Big Hollywood, among others, broke the ACORN video shot by NPR CEO ouster James O’Keefe and brought down Anthony Weiner via Weiner’s famous texts. Breitbart’s work will have to live on without him: Andrew Breitbart died in Brentwood, California, at age 43.
“He was walking near the house somewhere…. He was taken by paramedics to UCLA and they couldn’t revive him,” said actor Orson Bean, whose daughter Susannah Bean, was Breitbart’s wife. “We’re devastated. I loved him like a son. It looks like a heart attack, but no one knows until” an autopsy is performed.
Breitbart shot to fame as a member of the Drudge Report staff with Matt Drudge; shortly after leaving that position he went to the liberal bastion Huffington Post as a founding member of that blog. Then, Breitbart went out on his own and found great success. Whether or not you agree with his politics, you have to admire the will and drive of a guy who somehow invented a career out of writing and running websites.
