Peyton Manning has spent a staggering 14 seasons for the Indianapolis Colts. Once upon a time, he was the top NFL draft pick for the Colts, and he came out of Tennessee to become one of the best quarterbacks of all time. He’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer, he’s the reason the RCA Dome was deflated in favor of Lucas Oil Stadium, and he basically dragged the Colts to the Super Bowl while being an on-field offensive coordinator. Now, Peyton Manning is done in Indianapolis as the Colts will be cutting him today.
After Peyton’s near-retirement as a result of a serious neck injury, the Colts and owner Jim Irsay decided that it would be in the team’s best interest to cut Peyton as they believed he would never really recover from his injury. The fact that the Colts are sitting on the top pick in this year’s NFL draft and superstar in the making Andrew Luck no doubt had a whole lot to do with that, too. Peyton, who was cleared to return to football, has made a decision to continue playing, no matter who that might be for.
It won’t be for the horseshoes. Will Peyton be taking his talents to South Beach? The New York Jets? There are a lot of possibilities for Manning, who may be the most high-profile free agent in NFL history.
