The New Orleans Saints worked him out and passed. The San Francisco 49ers worked him out and were impressed. Randy Moss is making a comeback, and he’s signing with the San Francisco 49ers. Moss worked out with 49ers head coach and 15-year NFL veteran quarterback Jim Harbaugh, and apparently both Harbaugh and 49ers CEO Jed York liked what they saw during the intense workout.
“I’m not a free agent. I’m a guy straight off the couch, straight off the street. One thing I want the sports world to understand is the love and passion I have for football,” said Moss, who had a tumultuous 2010 season in which he got former Vikings coach Brad Childress before retiring for a season. “The thing about me being here is they’ve done their research on me. When it comes to the worldwide sports media, I’ve gotten a bad rap. They’ve done their homework on me or they wouldn’t have brought me in here. … (The questions were) more of me not being a team player and things like that. I don’t want to get into that.”
Moss has had a lot of time to fall back in love with football during his comeback workouts, that’s for sure. Moss has had 10 1000-yard seasons during his NFL career, second all time to the 14 gathered by former 49er and Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice. The Niners haven’t had a 1000-yard receiver since Terrell Owens did it for the team in 2003.
