It’s not the Fantastic Four, it’s the Final Four. As the 2012 NCAA Tournament draws to a close, more and more teams have fallen by the wayside to defeat, and only four teams remain standing. The class of the SEC, the University of Kentucky. The class of the Big East, the University of Louisville. The class of the Big 12, Kansas University. And last but not least, the class of the Big 10, Ohio State. While they’re not all number one seeds (only Kentucky is), they are all very good teams, and they’re all heading to the Final Four thanks to tournament hot streaks.
In one Final Four matchup, traditional rivals UK and U of L will face off. The teams last played one another on New Year’s Eve, with UK besting Louisville by a score of 69-62. Meanwhile, Kansas and Ohio State seldom play one another, but they played this year. Kansas beat Ohio State 78-67, though the Buckeyes were missing their star, Jared Sullinger (who will play in the finals). The winners of these two match-ups will play in the national championship game at the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
“It is in our state. They’re a great program. We’re in two different leagues,” said UK coach John Calipari, whose Wildcats are headed to their second straight Final Four appearance. “The city of Louisville drives our state. The University of Louisville drives that city. So it’s a very important thing for our state, and it’s important that that school does well.”
Indeed, we all want Louisville to do well, just not against Kentucky. UK basketball is the pride of our state, barring a few misguided Louisville fans. So, officially, Go Big Blue!
