Spike Lee is a good to great director of movies, but he’s got a problem. A lot of times, Spike Lee says things without thinking. He talks. A lot. And he’s not exactly the most accurate person when he speaks and especially when he posts to Twitter. Once again, Spike Lee’s quick tongue has gotten him into trouble, because (in this case) he has gotten other people in trouble. Elaine and David McClain are a pair of 70-somethings who live in Orlando, Florida, and they’ve got nothing to do with the shooting of Trayvon Martin; unfortunately for the McClains, Spike Lee has driven them from their home. Spike Lee was trying to tweet George Zimmerman’s address and accidentally drove a pair of 70-year-olds from their home by mistake.
That’s right, the McClains (who are 70 and 72) have been forced to flee from their Orlando home because Spike Lee was trying to get some vigilante justice done to George Zimmerman. Or at least harassment. Spike Lee, for his part, has taken down the mistaken tweet and apologized, but the damage is done. The McClains were harassed and threatened by overzealous justice-seekers, and it’s the death threats that eventually caused them to abandon their home for safer climates.
