For whatever reason, the multi-state Mega Millions Lottery just seems to be hitting higher and higher jackpot numbers. It wasn’t all that long ago when Mega Millions hit $335 million, but that’s chump change compared to the current high the jackpot has hit. The current Mega Millions jackpot will be a staggering $476 million dollars as of its next drawing on Friday, and may end up even higher than that before someone wins the money!
The previous record high for the Mega Millions jackpot was $390 million, which was split by two people in 2007 (as was the last big jackpot). Mega Millions is played in over 40 states, Washington D.C., and the territory of the US Virgin Islands. At the last drawing on Tuesday, 47 people got 5 of 6 numbers correct, which would be worth $250,000 a piece. Still, that’s nothing compared to even a share of $476 million bucks, even if you split it among 47 people.
Needless to say, I’ll be picking up a lottery ticket before Friday.
