The NBA’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year went from an also-ran team to the reigning NBA champions when he was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks. It was a change to contribute to another playoff team, to get back at the team that dismissed him so coldly, and a chance to be something other than Mr. Khloe Kardashian. Unfortunately, Lamar Odom has been mediocre to bad this season, and that’s one of the reasons why the Dallas Mavericks are shutting him down for the season.
“We’ve got to be able to look down that bench and count on folks to be consistent,” said Dallas general manager Donnie Nelson. “Unfortunately with him in his state right now, he’s just not capable of doing that.”
Lamar’s averages this season, 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 20.5 minutes per game, are career lows. He had some turmoil in the off-season, with a cousin being murdered and being involved (as a passenger) to a fatal wreck, but the big reason he’s pouting is probably because he’s no longer living in Los Angeles. I’m sure he’ll go back to the Lakers again and get resigned for the veteran minimum or some reasonable deal and resume playing again well next season, but it’s disappointing to see just how much he hasn’t really cared this year.
