In spite of everything, from the decade-long delay in the release of Chinese Democracy to the antagonistic relationship with the audience, Axl Rose and Guns N’ Roses have somehow managed to become members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Just don’t tell Axl Rose that. The GNR frontman has turned down admission to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, protesting said honor publicly in a complaint letter.
“I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” wrote Rose to the Hall. “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.'”
The whole thing around the Guns N’ Roses induction into the hall of fame is centered around the induction of the classic lineup: Izzy Stradlin, Slash, Duff McKagen, Axl, and Steven Adler. Unsurprisingly, Axl has no desire to be in the same room with most of these guys, let alone reuniting to perform with them. There’s too much dislike there, and too many years’ worth of hard feelings between them all, Slash and Axl especially.
