Joe Muto, The Fox News Mole

What to know what goes on inside the walls of the Fox News Channel?  So did Gawker Media.  Somehow, they found a mole on the inside of Fox News who was willing to tell every detail about Fox News’s inner workings, no matter how mundane.  That mole’s name was Joe Muto, and the price Gawker paid to get him to ruin his career in journalism?  $5000.  Joe Muto was the Fox News Mole for only $5000.  I guess he really was tired of working there!

Here’s how the Fox News Mole described himself in his outing piece with Gawker:  “I am a weasel, a traitor, a sell-out and every bad word you can throw at me… but as of today, I am free, and I am ready to tell my story, which I wasn’t able to fully do for the previous 36 hours.”

Muto bounced around on various Fox properties, but landed an associate producer job on The O’Reilly Factor in January 2007.  Since then, he has worked on the O’Reilly team, although he wasn’t really a fan of the program or of working in journalism.  Still, it seems drastic just to talk about the bathrooms in your workplace and not, say, bring down a Congressman or do something hard-hitting.  I mean, do you think any company is going to trust Joe Muto with its secrets for quite sometime?  I kind of doubt it; maybe he’ll find a nice job with Gawker itself and that’s going to be what he does until this frenzy dies down.
