Apple just can’t keep its devices a secret. The iPhone 4G was leaked early. The MacBook was leaked early. Apple employees lose phones in bars all the time. There’s just no real way to keep anything secret. In that spirit, who wants to see what the upcoming iPhone looks like? Leaked images of the iPhone 5 have been released, revealing design changes and material changes. If that’s not mouth-watering enough, 9to5Mac has a full image gallery of the iPhone 5.
So what’s different? Well, the connector port at the bottom of the iPhone looks to be smaller than the current generation, and the headphone jack is in a different place. The iPhone’s body looks to be longer, suggesting a larger viewing screen on the device. The back appears to be aluminum with glass sections at the top and bottom, which would make the phone a bit more responsive when it comes to actually making phone calls. The antenna is believed to be built into the metal casing, which would make the iPhone 5 more like the unibody construction trend Apple follows. In addition, the speaker grills are redesigned, there’s a new port for what may be a second microphone on the front, and no doubt the internals will be all different, too.
So, is this a positive development for Apple? If it works as a phone and improves battery life, then that’s definitely a victory for the notoriously energy-hungry smartphone.
