Sometimes, you try an experiment and it just doesn’t work out for all parties involved. The great Ochocinco gamble turned out to be a loser for the New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick. In spite of all the work put in by the former Chad Johnson and the team, things just didn’t work out in New England even though Ocho behaved himself, didn’t do any public relations stunts, and was not controversial in the slightest. In spite of his good behavior, the Patriots have cut Chad Ochocinco.
In his only season in New England, Ochocinco played in 15 games, starting 3. He accumulated 15 receptions for 276 yards and a single touchdown. Since he was drafted in 2001 by the Cincinnati Bengals, he has caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns. He is a six-time Pro Bowl player and once led the AFC in receiving for 4 seasons in a row, an NFL record.
For his part, Ochocinco is not bitter about the experience, tweeting, “Thoroughly enjoyed the oppurtunity to play for the ‘Patriot’ organization… fans were … wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best.”
