Gisela Gagliard, a 53-year-old accountant from Kingston, New York, i is a hardcore Twilight fan. One look at her Facebook would tell you that. Unfortunately for Gisela, her Twilight fandom cost her her life yesterday. On Sunday, fans started lining up to get tickets for a San Diego Comic-Con panel about The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. In the mad rush to keep her place in line when Comic-Con officials shifted the queue of Twi-hards, Gisela Gagliardi was hit by a car and killed while trying to cross Harbor Drive to get to the San Diego Convention Center. Today is the first day of Comic-Con, as the massive celebration of nerddom opens for previews today.
Apparently, while trying to get across the street and to keep her place in line, Gisela dashed out into the street. She had a red light but was in a cross walk. One driver saw her and stopped in time; a 67-year-old San Diego Man driving a Subaru Outback didn’t see her in time. He slammed on his brakes, but Gisela slipped and hit the side of his vehicle. She was rushed to a hospital, but died due to her injuries. The driver was not charged.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we offer our heartfelt condolences,” said Comic-Con spokesman David Glanzer. “Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved in this tragic incident.”
The first Breaking Dawn movie was a box-office smash that shattered box office records, making an insane $30 million from midnight screenings alone. No doubt, this next movie will be a success as well, even if they’re short one Twi-hard.
