The US Women’s National Team is one of the medal favorites at the 2012 London Olympics, and a great deal of those hopes rest on Dancing With The Stars contestant and USWNT goalie Hope Solo. One of the keys of the women’s soccer team, without Solo the ladies would face a much tougher road to Olympic gold, but with great power comes great responsibility. Hope Solo was warned over drug test results after testing positive for the diuretic canrenone.
However, Solo had a good reason for her drug test failure, and the US Anti-Doping Agency believed her where they didn’t believe Lance Armstrong. Solo’s excuse? It was that time of the month. That’s right, apparently Solo took a prescription PMS drug that contained the banned diuretic.
“I took a medication prescribed by my personal doctor for pre-menstrual purposes that I did not know contained a diuretic,” said a statement released by U.S. Soccer and Hope Solo. “Once informed of this fact, I immediately cooperated with USADA and shared with them everything they needed to properly conclude that I made an honest mistake, and that the medication did not enhance my performance in any way. As someone who believes in clean sport, I am glad to have worked with USADA to resolve this matter and I look forward to representing my country at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.”
