Tragedy has struck the Stallone family. According to authorities, the body of Sage Stallone, Sylvester Stallone’s son, was found dead in his home in Los Angeles. The 36-year-old starred alongside his father in Rocky V and Daylight before becoming an actor and director in his own right. He was also the founder and president of Grindhouse Releasing, which specialized in restoring and releasing 70’s Italian horror films (and did so brilliantly, I must add). The cause of death is believed to be a drug overdose, though authorities are not sure what drugs they might be until toxicology reports are released. Authorities are not sure whether or not the overdose was intentional or accidental, but Sage was not believed to have been depressed.
“Sylvester Stallone is devastated and grief-stricken over the sudden loss of his son, Sage Stallone. His loss will be felt forever,” says a statement issued by Stallone’s publicist, Michelle Bega. “His compassion and thoughts are with Sage’s mother, Sasha [Czack, Stallone’s first wife]. Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man.”
Stallone, currently doing press work for The Expendables 2 alongside costars like Dolph Lungdren, is said to have been devastated by the news. Here’s hoping the macho Italian actor has a good support system among his castmates, because he’s going to be needing his friends right now. There’s nothing more terrible or tragic than a parent outliving their child.
